DAVID LOW

Founder & Head Coach

David Low is the founder and Head Coach of Tipping Point Coaching. Established in 2013, Tipping Point Coaching grew from his passion for cycling and his commitment to helping athletes unlock their full potential — both on and off the bike.

With more than 25 years of mountain biking experience, David brings deep technical knowledge and practical insight to his coaching. He is a UCI Level 1 & 2 certified coach and has completed the Cycling Australia Level 1 & 2 Coaching Courses.

In 2003, David earned South African Colours and represented the country at the UCI XCO World Championships in Lugano, Switzerland, and later at the World Marathon Championships at Cascades in 2014 — defining milestones that continue to shape his athlete‑centred coaching philosophy.

Most recently, David joined the Barry Austin Training System as an Associate Coach, working alongside renowned coach Barry Austin. This collaboration enables him to further expand his expertise within the BATS methodology while contributing decades of experience in athlete development.

DEAN WORTMANN

Coach

Dean Wortmann is a passionate cycling coach dedicated to developing young athletes and helping riders become the best version of themselves—both on and off the bike. Dean’s coaching primarily focuses on school cyclists and elite athletes aiming to improve their performance. Dean creates an environment where athletes can grow in confidence, discipline, and performance while still enjoying the sport.

A few highlights from Dean’s racing journey include:

  • Multiple KZN Champion in XCO and Road
  • Sani2C Nonstop Winner (2022)
  • 4th place at the SA XCO Cup (2014)


Dean was also coached by David for 12 years during the early days of Tipping Point, which played a significant role in shaping his approach to training and athlete development.

Dean is excited about the journey ahead and looks forward to helping the next generation of riders grow and succeed.

Qualifications: SSISA Cycling Coaching Certificate.
